Dr Lisa Forsberg

Lisa Forsberg is a Senior Research Fellow in the Uehiro Oxford Institute, and a Research Fellow in Philosophy at Somerville College. Previously, she was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Law, Oxford, leading the project ‘Changing One’s Mind: Neurointerventions, Autonomy, and the Law on Consent’. Her main research interests are in moral and legal philosophy, especially normative and practical ethics/value theory and the philosophy of medical and criminal law, and focusing in particular on the nature and value of consent (including children's consent), the permissibility of non-consensual interventions, the nature and value of achievement, the history of feminism (especially relating to Mill and other utilitarians) and contemporary feminist philosophy, utilitarianism, the nature of wellbeing, and what makes medical interventions morally and legally permissible. She is the co-editor, with Isra Black and Anthony Skelton, of Consenting Children: Autonomy, Responsibility, Wellbeing (Proceedings of the British Academy, 2025).

Lisa teaches Practical Ethics and a course on Mill's The Subjection of Women, Utilitarianism, and Feminism on the BPhil in Philosophy, and offers undergrad tutorials in Ethics, Feminist Theory, Moral Philosophy, and Practical Ethics. She is happy to supervise DPhil projects in areas relating to her research. 

Lisa is also a Research Associate at the Institute of Ethics in Technology, Hamburg University of Technology, Associate Editor of the Journal of Practical Ethics, and Editor for Moral Philosophy for the Diversity Reading List in Philosophy.
