Practical ethics and responsibility: a masterclass for teachers in support of the PER competition

Do we need to have ‘free will’ to be responsible? How can we be responsible for huge issues when our individual contributions seem insignificant? Can we be responsible for problems that aren’t our fault? 

This online event is primarily aimed at non-Philosophy teachers supporting students taking part in the annual Practical Ethics and Responsibility competition, but anyone with an interest in finding out more about our responsibilities towards each other, our planet and our future is welcome to attend.  

Dr Ben Davies will talk through the basics of how the topic of responsibility is approached by applied philosophers, as well as providing an insight into winning strategies for handling the topic in the PER competition. A Q&A will follow.

Ben is a postdoctoral research fellow and Primary Investigator on the Wellcome Trust-funded project: 'Best interests and sufficient benefit: The ethics of hard decisions in healthcare', which considers the idea of 'sufficiency' in the context of healthcare.
