Otis is a final-year medical student at the University of Otago in Aotearoa, New Zealand. His research interests include the philosophy and ethics of medical decision-making, particularly in psychiatry. In 2022, he completed a Bachelor of Medical Science (Hons) in Bioethics, which explored theories of autonomy and authenticity in supported medical decision-making.
Otis is visiting the Uehiro centre in January and February of 2025 to complete a project on the ethics of psychedelic-assisted therapy, supervised by Professor Thomas Douglas. His work will investigate the potentially transformative nature of psychedelic experiences and their implications for patient authenticity and autonomy.
