Jonathan Pugh has been awarded first prize in the 2023 ESPMH Young Scholar Awards for his paper "Capacity, Autonomy, and Risk: Reflecting on Asymmetries in Capacity to Consent and Capacity to Refuse".
The paper discusses questions about the concept of decision-making capacity in medical ethics, and considers whether we should invoke a higher standard of decision-making capacity in cases where patients are making risky decisions.
The prize consists of an award of € 2,000 to cover travel and accommodation expenditures for an invited participation in the next ESPMH Conference to be held in Riga, Latvia in August 2023.
