Omer Bilgin is an independent Al governance researcher with strong aspirations of establishing a career in technology policy, and a proud member of the Oxford Al Society's Education Team. His primary career aim is to one day work with policy-makers, major technology firms and the general public to help devise feasible solutions to societal-scale risks and pressing policy matters arising from emerging AI-powered technologies, and to ultimately help steer their regulation and long-term ramifications towards optimal benefit for all members of society. Accordingly, some of hiscurrent research interests include:
- the democratisation of Al development and regulation;
- case studies on Al-assisted deception and manipulation, where systems are employed to influence the formation of public opinions and the outcomes of democratic processes;
- responsibility and liability concerns surrounding downstream applications of foundation models and future systems with highly-agentic capabilities.
